Modern Edge- Styled Shoot at The Clyde Venue
It’s funny sometimes how life works itself out. I’m constantly thinking of new styled shoot ideas, since they are some of my favorite projects to work on creatively. For a while now, I kept thinking to myself about how I wanted to do this super modern black and white shoot with super cool florals and an installation and a sleek white dress, but here in Savannah, we didn’t seem to have many venues that fit the modern, sleek, edgy look i had in mind. Enter the Clyde Venue, which just opened right by the SCAD Museum of Art. It’s a crisp, clean, blank slate, with the coolest marble bar and a chandelier only my wildest dreams could have envisioned. When Hilary of Hilary Hull Photography approached me about working on a shoot at the Clyde, I couldn’t say yes fast enough. She and her husband Randy (who did our amazing video!) were a dream to work with and helped so much in bringing this shoot to life.
As I scouted out our team, Hilary recommended Kristian Designs to join with florals, and man am I glad she did. Kristian is one of those people that just completely blows you away and goes beyond anything you could have ever expected. She spent countless nights working with me to figure out what exactly we were going to do flower wise, and did everything she could possibly do to make this modern floral dream come to life. I remember getting to the venue to set up and her bringing buckets and buckets and buckets of the most amazing flowers from Italy and Australia and thinking to myself “man, this is gonna be good!”
If you haven’t worked with Selena of Vanilla and the Bean yet, do yourself a favor: either call her for your wedding RIGHT NOW, or make up an excuse to throw a party and call her RIGHT NOW. When I tell you my jaw hit the floor after seeing this cake, I could not be more literal. She completely nailed our vision down and is just insanely talented.
I knew for our bride’s look I wanted a no frills, clean, modern look. I was searching for quite a while to find something that fit when I saw the most breathtaking dress on Mary Elizabeth’s Bridal Instagram. A Meghan Markle esque neckline with the most beautiful back of your life. Train for days. Sleek, sophisticated, and just utterly striking. Everyone says when you’re looking for your wedding dress, you just know right when you see it. Well, when our model Hailey tried it on, I literally said “yeah, that’s the one. No more. We’re done. I’m dead.” Which was surprising to me since they have such an amazing selection, but when you know, you know!
And of course, Hustle and Blow came in clutch and made our model into the modern fairy goddess that graces these photographs. They fully embraced her wild curls and brought out her beauty so well! I always love working with the team at H&B, and look forward to our next collaboration to see what they will do next!
Being in Savannah, it’s SO easy to fall into the same routine of the “Southern Belle” theme, with pastels and big dresses and roses, and while that is beautiful and charming in its own right, I like to think outside the box and challenge this little southern city with some high fashion flair. This team truly brought their A game, and you can see for yourself just how talented of a crew we had. It’s projects like these that really make me fall in love with event design and making art with fellow creatives.
Everyone on the team has so much of my respect as artists and business owners. They all are the BEST of the best, and truly make working in this industry so inspiring. Please make sure to give them some love and check them out!
